The objective of this meeting was to kick start the project, gathering together all project staff for the first time and outside experts in order to discuss ‘What is European Bioethics’? followed promptly by the question ‘What is the future of European Bioethics’?
The workshop consisted of 17 presentations in total from both project partners, junior researchers and experts in the field of bioethics, several other invited attendees also participated during group discussion. A welcome aside to our main questions of the workshop was the section ‘Bioethics in Fiction. Chaired by Professor Andy Miah and including presentations from award winning author Hazel McHaffie and PhD student Natasha Burns; Bioethics in Fiction saw each presenter outlining different representations of bioethical issues in popular media and their impact to the general public.
